
Ikran Abdirahman

Ikran is a lawyer with experience in technology policy, data privacy and AI governance. Ikran works on advising clients on data protection compliance, and has supported companies in adopting responsible AI practices. She is an expert member of the Africa AI Policy Lab Working Group (AI and Privacy) and has also contributed to the development process of the Kenya National AI Strategy. In 2025, Ikran was named among the global list of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics.
Previously, Ikran consulted with UNESCO, managing the global AI & Rule of Law project. She has also worked at the International Organization for Migration where she focused on data protection within humanitarian functions, and at Bowmans (Law firm) as a corporate lawyer.
Holding a Masters in Development Studies with a thesis in AI Governance (Geneva Graduate Institute), Certificate in Digital Law (University of Geneva), and a Law Degree from Kenya (Strathmore University), Ikran brings a unique blend of expertise to the intersection of law, technology, and policy.
